Choosing between a_e, ai and ay is a classic spelling puzzle. This printable pack gives each pattern a unit of its own, 36 words total, then mixes the patterns together on sorting pages. 26 pages in all.
Each unit is 7 pages long. Page one lists 12 words, highlights the pattern in color, and explains how to remember them. Activities used across the pack: ABC order, word scrambles, look-cover-write-check charts, rainbow writing, write-it-three-times pages, word searches, sentence writing, missing-letter tiles, trace-and-write lines and find-and-circle the pattern. They rotate week to week to keep practice fresh. A peek at the lists: Unit 2 (long a spelled ai): wait, pail, rain, mail; Unit 3 (long a spelled ay): tray, stay, way, play.
A separate answer key shows ABC-order lists, unscrambled words, missing letters, circled patterns, word search solution grids, every test word in read-aloud order and the sorting pages. Front and back matter: a tracker page with score boxes, a 20-word review test drawn from all 3 units, and a printable certificate.
