History and Society Articles is the theme of this printable reading comprehension pack for Grade 7. You get 8 original passages (7 articles and 1 fable) and 40 questions in total, ready to print on US Letter or A4 paper.

Texts run from 244 to 264 words (about 253 on average) and are set in Lora serif print for passages with Atkinson Hyperlegible for questions. Each of the 8 passages fills its own page, and its questions sit on the next page so the text never feels cramped.

Question types (40 total): 32 multiple choice with four options and 8 short answer. Skill focus: vocabulary in context, detail, cause and effect, claim and evidence, author's purpose, main idea, inference, text structure, character, theme and tone.

A peek at the questions - "Roads Built to Last" asks: Why was the center of a Roman road higher than its edges? (answer C: So rainwater would drain into side ditches). A written-response prompt from "The Machine That Multiplied Books": Explain in two or three sentences how the printing press changed society. Sample answer in the key: The press made books faster and cheaper to produce, so more people could read, ideas spread widely, and spelling and grammar became more consistent.
