Item details
Build comprehension one short text at a time. The "Suspense and Adventure Stories" pack for Grade 7 gives a seventh grader 8 original passages (6 stories and 2 fables) plus 40 questions that practice inference, vocabulary in context and cause and effect.
Inside you will find The Last Ferry, Whiteout on Harker Ridge, The Keeper's Stairs, Stay Connected, Signal from Redrock Station, Where the Clock Forgets Noon, The Fox and the Lantern Moth and The Echo Keeper of Tern Pass.
Expect passages of 273 to 300 words, 288 on average, in Lora serif print for passages with Atkinson Hyperlegible for questions. Each of the 8 passages fills its own page, and its questions sit on the next page so the text never feels cramped.
The 40 questions split into 32 multiple choice (four bubbles per item) and 8 short answer. They target inference, vocabulary in context, cause and effect, character, detail, theme, text structure and tone, with inference questions appearing most often (8 times).
Sample question from "Signal from Redrock Station" (inference): Why was Omar especially worried about Dry Wash Camp? Correct answer: D, Campers there were probably in the wash, where floodwater would race. Short-answer example, "The Keeper's Stairs": What does Ana's reaction to the mysterious noise show about how she approaches the unknown? Support your answer with details. The key gives this sample response: Ana is curious and level-headed: she reminds herself old buildings creak, takes a flashlight, investigates step by step, and finds a logical explanation rather than running away.
Everything arrives as one ZIP: an 18-page worksheet PDF in US Letter and in A4 (separate folders). An answer key (3 pages) sits in the same ZIP as its own PDF: correct letters with the answer words, sample written answers, and a skill label beside each number. A cover page lists every title with its skills and page numbers, and a closing page holds a score tracker and a skills check for the student.
Perfect as warm-up work before a longer novel unit. Print only the pages you need and keep the rest for later. Pair a passage with a short retelling or a drawing activity.
