Item details
Give a sixth grader a month of steady reading practice with this grade 6 set of 8 original passages from the "Science and Technology Articles" theme. The pack mixes 7 articles and 1 how-to text, and every passage is followed by 5 comprehension questions.
Passage titles, in order: Headphones That Fight Sound with Sound, Tiny Bakers: The Secret Life of Yeast, Why Every Student Should Learn to Code, How to Build a Solar Oven, How Your Phone Knows Where You Are, Robots That Learn to Walk, Inside a Battery: Chemistry on Standby, The Forces That Hold Up a Bridge.
Passage length is 243-257 words, averaging roughly 252. The type is Lora serif print for passages with Atkinson Hyperlegible for questions. Each of the 8 passages fills its own page, and its questions sit on the next page so the text never feels cramped.
Questions (40 in all): 32 multiple-choice questions with four lettered answer choices and 8 short-answer questions with writing lines. Skills practiced: detail, cause and effect, vocabulary in context, inference, main idea, text structure and author's purpose.
A peek at the questions - "Inside a Battery: Chemistry on Standby" asks: What makes electrons flow from the anode to the cathode? (answer D: Completing a circuit). A written-response prompt from "Why Every Student Should Learn to Code": Give two reasons the author offers for teaching coding to all students. Sample answer in the key: Coding teaches problem-solving habits, helps people understand the computers that are everywhere in daily life, and opens doors to many future jobs.
Everything arrives as one ZIP: an 18-page worksheet PDF in US Letter and in A4 (separate folders). A 2-page answer key lists the correct letter and answer text for each multiple-choice item, a sample response for each written item, and the skill tag of every question. Extra pages include a contents page up front and a progress tracker with a skills self-check at the back.
Read together aloud, then let the child answer alone. Use it for a weekly reading routine, one passage per day. Slip a passage into a sub plan or an early-finisher folder.
