Passage length is 173-192 words, averaging roughly 183. The type is Atkinson Hyperlegible print, a typeface built for high legibility. Each of the 8 passages fills its own page, and its questions sit on the next page so the text never feels cramped.

Questions (40 in all): 32 multiple-choice questions with four lettered answer choices and 8 short-answer questions with writing lines. Skills practiced: detail, inference, cause and effect, main idea, vocabulary in context, sequence, author's purpose, theme and character.

A peek at the questions - "Greetings Around the World" asks: What is the main idea of the passage? (answer A: People around the world greet each other in many different ways.).
