Item details
Give a kindergartener a month of steady reading practice with this kindergarten set of 8 original passages from the "Weather and Seasons" theme. The pack mixes 5 stories, 2 articles and 1 how-to text, and every passage is followed by 2 comprehension questions.
Inside you will find The Rain Day, All About Snow, Leaf Piles, Four Seasons, A Hot Day, How to Dress for Snow, Ben and the Rainbow and The Windy Day Pinwheel.
Every text is between 28 and 39 words long (average 34). Printed in large Andika print, a typeface designed for beginning readers. Each of the 8 passages gets its own page, with the questions printed below it on the same sheet.
Across the pack there are 16 questions: 8 multiple-choice items (three choices each) and 8 written-response items with lines for the answer. The skills covered are detail, sequence and inference.
Sample question from "The Windy Day Pinwheel" (inference): What did the pinwheel do when the wind stopped? Correct answer: A, It stopped. Short-answer example, "All About Snow": What is snow? The key gives this sample response: Frozen water.
One ZIP download contains the 10-page PDF in both US Letter and A4 sizes. A 1-page answer key lists the correct letter and answer text for each multiple-choice item, a sample response for each written item, and the skill tag of every question. A cover page lists every title with its skills and page numbers, and a closing page holds a score tracker and a skills check for the student.
Pair a passage with a short retelling or a drawing activity. Reuse the PDF as often as you like for your own children or classroom. Good for quiet-time reading, car trips and summer review.
