Build science vocabulary one puzzle at a time with 12 printable crosswords for Grades 5-8. Every page covers one topic from the list below. All answers connect into one grid, and every across and down run of letters is an answer that has a clue. Word counts run 13 to 15 per puzzle, adding up to 169 clues. The pack uses longer subject terms (4-12 letters) and grids up to 16 x 16 squares.
The puzzle topics are The Scientific Method, Earth Layers and Plate Tectonics, Planets of the Solar System, Oceans and Tides, Renewable Energy, Sun Moon and Stars, Weather and Clouds, Lab Tools and Safety, Forms of Energy, Volcanoes and Earthquakes and 2 more. Sample answers include Timber, Seismic, Hail, Seafloor, Tsunami. Clues are short definitions in plain language, such as "Melted rock flowing on Earth's surface" (4) or "Outer layer of a planet that you could stand on" (7).
These are standard no-word-bank crosswords - the only hints are the clues, the number of letters in brackets and the letters that cross. Each page puts the numbered grid first and the Across and Down clue lists underneath, plus a name and date line. Answer squares measure at least 0.30 inch.
All 12 solutions are in a separate answer key file (3 pages, up to 4 solved grids per page) so students never see them by accident. You download a single ZIP. Inside: a US-Letter folder and an A4 folder, each with the 12-page puzzle PDF plus an answer key PDF, so it prints correctly anywhere.
