Chalk Dust, Graphite and Paper Grain Overlays - 6 Neutral Gray and Transparent Textures

Six overlay textures for classroom and fall artwork: chalk dust, graphite pencil hatching, eraser crumbs, paper fibres, film grain and dust with scratches. Each is supplied twice: as a neutral mid-gray image for Overlay or Soft Light blending, and as a transparent PNG with black and white marks that you can place on top in normal mode.

Single 4096 x 4096 px overlays, not tiles. Generated procedurally; no scans or photographs.

chalk-dust-graphite-paper-grain-overlays-gray-jpg.zip: 6 neutral mid-gray overlay images, JPG quality 92. Flat areas sit at 128 gray, marks are lighter or darker. chalk-dust-graphite-paper-grain-overlays-transparent-png.zip: 6 transparent PNG versions (RGBA) with white and black marks on a see-through background. Each zip also contains a short README.txt.

All files are 4096 x 4096 px, 8-bit sRGB and tagged 300 DPI (13.7 x 13.7 in at 300 DPI). The gray set is JPG only and the transparent set is PNG only; there are no TIFF files in this pack.

How to use the gray overlays: place one over your artwork and set the layer blend mode to Overlay or Soft Light in Photoshop, Affinity, GIMP or Procreate. Mid-gray stays invisible, lighter marks brighten and darker marks darken. Lower the layer opacity to taste. How to use the transparent PNGs: place one on top of your design in normal mode and adjust opacity. This works where blend modes are missing, such as Canva (use the Transparency slider), Keynote, PowerPoint and Google Slides. Canva does not offer Overlay blending, so use the transparent set there.

Ideas for using them: Give clean vector clip art a dusty, hand-made finish: set the gray version to Overlay or Soft Light. Drop a transparent PNG over a photo or background in Canva, Keynote or Google Slides without any blending modes. Add grain and dust over digital paintings, stickers and mock-ups.

Works in Photoshop, Affinity, GIMP, Canva (upload as an image), Procreate (import as an image layer), Keynote, PowerPoint and Google Slides, and any print shop accepts the files as they are. Nothing needs to be installed.
