Three autumn applique motifs for the 4x4 hoop. A red-orange maple leaf with a stitched midrib and a brown stem, an acorn with a tan felt nut and a textured brown cap, and an owl with a brown body, cream belly feathers and big round eyes.
The leaf and the acorn each use one applique piece; the owl uses a single body piece with cream tatami fills for the belly and eyes layered on top. Make a coordinated set of pillows, a row of fall hand towels, or three patches for a tote bag.
Use felt, cotton or flannel in your own harvest colors; fabrics in the preview are only suggestions.

Stitching notes: Applique stitch order: (1) placement line; place a piece of fabric over it. (2) tack-down; trim the fabric close to the stitch line. (3) satin edge covers the raw edge. Use cotton, felt or quilting cotton for the applique piece; light fusible web behind the fabric keeps it flat.
