A pale golden full moon applique with stitched craters, crossed by a black bat with scalloped wings. The moon is cut from a single circle of cream or butter-yellow fabric; the bat is a dense satin-edged black fill stitched on top, with small gold sparkles around the sky.
The simple round moon is easy to place and trim, and the black bat gives strong contrast on a pale or dark background. Use it for Halloween pillows, kids' tote bags, curtains, quilt blocks and framed hoop art.
Choose a smooth cotton or felt for the moon; a lightly fused backing keeps the round edge crisp under the satin cover.

Stitching notes: Applique stitch order: (1) placement line; place a piece of fabric over it. (2) tack-down; trim the fabric close to the stitch line. (3) satin edge covers the raw edge. Use cotton, felt or quilting cotton for the applique piece; light fusible web behind the fabric keeps it flat.
