Item details
A pointed witch hat with a bent tip and a wide brim, applique-cut from one piece of purple felt or cotton. After the satin border seals the edge, the machine stitches a black hat band with a gold buckle, a thin lavender highlight along the brim and three gold sparkles on the cone.
The whole hat is one fabric piece, so placing and trimming is a single pass. It makes a strong focal design for tote bags, kids' costume capes, Halloween pillow covers and wall banners, and it looks especially good on black, charcoal or deep green backgrounds.
For extra drama use glitter vinyl-free fabrics like velvet or satin for the hat; fuse the back first so the pile does not shift during tack-down.

Stitching notes: Applique stitch order: (1) placement line; place a piece of fabric over it. (2) tack-down; trim the fabric close to the stitch line. (3) satin edge covers the raw edge. Use cotton, felt or quilting cotton for the applique piece; light fusible web behind the fabric keeps it flat.
