A single bold maple leaf, stitched in two tones so the left half glows cranberry red and the right half burns pumpkin orange. A satin edge follows every pointed lobe, and a bright apricot midrib with side veins runs down the centre, so the leaf reads from across the room as well as up close.
Because the leaf is one strong, simple shape it works everywhere: a corner of a cream tea towel, the pocket of a fall apron, a tote bag, a cushion cover, a baby bib or a stack of coasters. Stitch the pair of sizes in the same thread colours and you have matching small and large pieces for a seasonal gift set.
The two halves are separate tatami fills with underlay, so the colour change is crisp and the fabric stays flat. Veins are narrow satin lines digitized after the fills to keep them raised and neat.

Stitching notes: Stitch on stable woven fabric or with cut-away stabilizer on knits; 40 wt polyester thread and a 75/11 needle suit these densities. Fills use tatami rows about 0.4 mm apart with edge-walk and zigzag underlay; satin edges give crisp outlines.
