Campfire Tales and Games for Autumn Nights: 8 Original Stories and 12 Games

Eight original campfire stories and twelve fire circle games for cool, dark autumn evenings. Each story is friendly-spooky: a scarecrow who counts stars, a lantern that guides a lost girl home across the marsh, a forgetful child and an owl who delivers lost things, a knock at the cabin door, a moon that stays home and a cellar with a thirteenth step. Every one has a complete arc and a warm ending, runs about 600 to 700 words, and has a short telling note with the spookiness level and ideas for pauses and sounds.

The twelve games are rules only, with no existing songs or rhymes, so your group can invent its own words and tunes. They include story chains, whisper games, shadow guessing, a night watch game, sound safari, an acorn hunt and a wordless rhythm song. Chapters on storytelling technique and campfire safety complete the book. Stories are written to be read aloud to children from about six; older listeners enjoy them too. No gore, no real brands, no references to other works.
