Eighteen picture-based pages that train the ear before the eye: beginning sounds, ending sounds, rhymes and syllables, all with friendly fall and Halloween pictures (bat, ghost, pumpkin, hedgehog, witch, spider, acorn, umbrella...). Students circle the letter that makes the first or last sound, color only the pictures that start with a given letter, match rhyming pictures, circle the picture that rhymes and clap and count syllables.
Four cut-and-paste sorting pages (beginning sounds, ending sounds, rhymes, syllables) give hands-on practice. Everything is checked in the build: every picture word really starts or ends with the stated letter, rhyming pictures sit in one rhyme family and no other picture on the page rhymes with them, and syllable counts are confirmed against a second counting method. A full answer key shows every correct answer.
