The first addition and subtraction a child meets should be seen, counted and touched. This workbook uses friendly Halloween and fall pictures, the things kindergartners already love to count, to build the meaning of putting together and taking away before moving on to numerals alone. Sixteen pages begin with sums to 5, grow to sums to 10, and then flip to taking away with an X on each picture that leaves.
Each page changes the task: write the sum, write the whole number sentence, circle the matching equation, circle the total, solve a short story, decide whether to add or take away, and draw a picture for an equation. A last page of quick facts shifts to numerals. No problem repeats anywhere in the book, and the answer key shows every written number and circled choice.
